Review of The 5 Love Languages for Men by Dr. Gary Chapman

I have not done a review on this site before, but I’m a fan of “The Five Love Languages” series, so I thought it would be a great read to get Dr. Chapman’s take on how the love languages apply to men.  I think he did a great job on gearing the book toward men.  Dr. Chapman often used sports terminology and analogies to paint the picture about the things he was sharing just as men would do in candid conversation whether at a sports bar or barbershop.  I feel Dr. Chapman did three things extremely well in this book and I want to share an overview of those things:

Dr. Chapman has one of the most recognizable series on the planet as it relates to relationships.  The Five Love Languages is widely known and used in marriages and relationships worldwide.  I think Dr. Chapman took a step in the direction of making this book easy to understand and relate to men.  The terminology is fun and easy to read.  The examples are real life examples and in some cases, I had experienced those exact examples referenced in the book.  The message is clear and concise.  The book is 240 pages, but it’s a quick and easy read.  If men are challenged reading other relationship books because they don’t speak to them, this is the one for them to read.Dr. Chapman

This book spends five chapters on becoming fluent in your mate’s love language.  Learning to speak a new language is not easy and it takes work.  The same goes for learning a new love language.  The guide to becoming fluent in your partner’s love language gives examples of how to meet the needs of how they receive love and serve them in a way they appreciate.  Books which intend to help sometimes miss the mark of showing you how to apply the information, but I think Dr. Chapman does a great job of showing us how to become fluent in the love language of our partner.  He also helps us decipher what our partners love language is (if we don’t already know).

The Five Love Languages for me also expounds into topics that every man has to deal with, but many of us dread—apologizing and dealing with anger in our relationships.  It’s the goal of the book to teach the love languages and how to apply our knowledge, but in reality, even when we do that well, there will be times we fall short of the mark.  Adding ideas on how to deal with anger (from either or both parties) and how to apologize, is really completing this book as a go-to guide for how to treat your mate.  Learning how to apologize, and what apologies are acceptable are tips for daily life every man can use.

Men, if you are struggling in your relationships or if you have a good relationship which you would like to see continue to flourish and become great, this is the book for you.  These principles are so important to a healthy relationship (I speak from experience) that I can tell you with certainty, that if you apply these ideas in your marriage, you will see a marked improvement in a short period of time.  I highly recommend this book, whether married, single or dating.  Learning how to communicate to your woman in a way she receives you is one of the best feelings we can have in our relationships.

5 love languages for menI appreciate you taking the time to read this review.  I want to share this book with one of my readers.  If you will reply to with your mate’s love language and a sentence or two about how you communicate to your mate in their love language, we’re going to pick the best response and send you a FREE copy of The 5 Love Languages for Men, by Dr. Gary Chapman.  This is open to men or women (this book makes a great gift!).  This contest is open through Midnight, Saturday, February 28, 2015.  Good luck!
